Bus and Tram collide at Croydon

A serious collison occurred yesterday at George Street in Croydon, when a bus on the 468 service from South Croydon to Elephant & Castle, collided with a tram (2534), and struck a number of shop fronts before coming to rest after hitting the back of a BMW car.

A 28 year old male was struck by both the tram and the bus after being thrown through the upstairs window of the bus. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 2 people suffered serious injuries whilst 4 others also suffered non life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses claim the collision occurred after the bus swerved to avoid a car, and subsequently hit the tram. The bus driver was arrested and has been has since been bailed. police are currently investigating if the bus went past a traffic light set at red.

The bus, LX06 DYS, a Wright-bodied Volvo B7TL, is part of the London Central fleet (WVL 212).
