Coach driver charged with drink driving

The driver of the National Express coach that crashed at Newport Pagnell services on the M1 in September has been charged with drink driving. 35yr old Leslie Darryl Weinberg from Meyrick Road in West Bromwich returned on bail to Milton Keynes police station this morning.

Roads policing officers, who have been investigating the cause of the collision on 3 September 2007, have charged Mr Weinberg with driving while under the influence of excess alcohol and dangerous driving.

Six people were seriously injured and 24 received minor injuries after the incident on the M1 southbound service station slip road.

Mr Weinberg will appear at Milton Keynes Magistrates' Court on Tuesday 12 February at 1000hrs. He was originally arrested on the day of the collision on suspicion of drink driving and dangerous driving. The delay was due to the fact that officers had not received some forensic evidence necessary for the Crown Prosecution Service to make a fully-informed decision whether to charge or not.
